Summer is OVER!

Not sure if you all noticed, but I took this summer off! I was still in for a client here and there, some regulars that come once every 2 weeks or a month, but really didn't do any promotion!

Well, I have to face the fact, on the last day of September, that summer is OVER! I'm in the office by appointment on Mondays and Thursdays now, and ofcourse available for home visits some evenings and weekends. And I'll be back to doing some promotions!

If you have EVER been to see me, I will be sending out some snail mail bonuses soon!

I'm working with a zero gravity chair now too, for the comfort of everyone.

I have a lot more I want to blog about - but I have clients in office today, and must get ready!

10 Reasons to Try Reflexology!

One of the most common questions I am asked is why should I try Reflexology? Many people think that Foot Reflexology is a glorified foot massage. It is definitely MORE THAN THAT and here are my 10 top reasons to give it a shot!!

  1. Reduces STRESS – who doesn't want to reduce the stress in their life
  2. Improves overall circulation in the body and especially in the feet and legs
  3. Relieves Tension in the Body and the Mind
  4. Promotes Better Sleep
  5. Improves Digestion
  6. Detoxes the Body
  7. Calms the Mind
  8. Improves function of all organs
  9. Induces the parasympathetic nervous system - REST and REPAIR STATE
  10. MAKES YOU HAPPY!!!!

Who wouldn't benefit from that!

Crohn's, Fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid Arthritis - PLEASE READ!

I think it was serendipity that Dina was one of the winners of the free Reflexology sessions at the end of March.

I met Dina almost a year ago, I think, when I was at the thrift store. She would come in with her hubby, and make me laugh, and shop till they dropped. Oddly enough, I had no idea how TRUE that statement was. I didn't know until last week, that one of Dina's routines was to get her Remicade treatment for Crohns, come shopping, have lunch, until the Remicade kicked in and knocked her on her backside for up to 4 days.

Dina is about 36. (I totally just outed your age, Dina... but it's Okay, because I'm 2 years OLDER than you! lol.) For the last 2 years, she's been suffering with Crohns. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crohn%27s_disease). She also suffers from Rheumatoid Arthritis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rheumatoid_arthritis), and Fibromyalgia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fibromyalgia)

I had very little idea about what all these 3 diseases entailed on their own... after reading about them in depth, I then had a VERY big picture about what all 3 meant when you mixed them up together, and put them in the lap of a 36 year old woman, mother, wife.

Then I learned about what the Remicade does to her, on top of that. Up to 4 days of being unable to do anything other than sleep, waking often in pain. Unable to eat, sleep, or be awake comfortably. Not being able to participate. They described it to me as "like a chemotherapy treamtment, for Crohns."

My first visit was Friday April 5th, the day AFTER Remicade. Dina was in pain, they had a rough night, and I could see it, but she still made me a tea while we filled out her health records and paperwork. I got her set up comfy, turned down lights, and she put on some soothing music.

And I put every ounce of intuition, reiki, and healing into that first session - being aware of her arthiritic foot, and to go easy on the stomach reflexes on her foot!

She fell asleep, so I quietly filled her husband in on the details of her treatment, and went back home.

Hours later she emailed me here at Facebook. She had slept for 3 hours after I left. When she woke, she had said that her Headache and pain were all but gone. She got up and stayed up for the day, and her husband also let me know that she was very alert, engaging, and had lots of energy. They both messaged me through the day to let me know just how amazing the 'day after Remicade' was, in comparison to how it NORMALLY goes.

On Saturday I visited. She was up, walking around, playing at the computer, alert! She says on Saturday and Sunday, she was actually able to do housework. HOUSEWORK. On a day where she is normally still swollen and in pain, unable to participate, troubled with headaches and unable to eat.

I did a second follow up treatment yesterday (Monday) and we made appointments in advance, for the days BEFORE she gets her Remicade (as they are usually trying days for her too.) and the days after.

I have to tell you, I'm no exaggerating when I say I am only ALMOST as excited as she is about this. THIS is why I came to Reflexology as a healing modality.

Here are Dina's words below:

my friend Lori owns a reflexolgy(pressure points in your feet) here in Midalnd, Ontario. I have been suffering for 2 years now from chrons. My first appointment was on April 5th this year. I receive remicade for my chrons every six weeks, and I experience severe side effects. Headaches, lots of pain, very tired and severe swelling and no energy. After Lori was done I slept for 3 hours and when I woke up I felt amazing. Saturday and Sunday I was able to catch up on my house work, make supper and horse around with my son. Never in the past year since I started the remicade have I ever been able to do that. Lori will be helping me out with the chrons, her work is amazing and its nice to not experience the nasty side effects of chrons, and my fibermylagia and rheumatoid are less painful and 90 percent of the time I don't feel any kind of pain. As well I have been sleeping better as well. If anyone is interested in giving it a shot even if your healthy its an amazing relaxtion as well. If interested let me know by message on facebook , and I will talk to Lori and set up something for u. LORI Your Amazing.

I feel AWESOME After a Massage with Samantha Dickey RMT

I just had a fantastic massage. I don't usually 'treat' myself, but I'm discovering that this is really more of a necessity than a 'treat' for me, and many others with muscle and back challenges. I had a herniated disc in my back, and have just lived with the pain it causes from my lower back all the way down to my toes. I am feeling SO grateful for the relief she's given me, in only one half hour session.

Samantha Dickey RMT works out of Health Works Chiropractic and Wellness Centre. She put a heating pad on the massage table, and some warm blankets (I was feeling cold when I came in from the cold.) We had a little talk about what was happening with my lower back.

Her hand movements were slow and thoughtful, while she felt and found the tight muscles under my skin. There were far more than I thought I had! I could feel them as she targeted them with her fingers.

She ended the massage with a neck massage, which was AWESOME. I left feeling so relaxed, my back pain is 95% reduced, the tightness in my neck and back is so much more reduced. I have more movement!

So, Samantha gave me some excersizes (which don't really feel like excersizes at all!) to do, that did NOT involve push ups! They were different from anything ever suggested for me, and made so much sense. She also suggested a better pillow so I can support my neck better. I was just so impressed by her knowledge and her skill.

I know this blog is supposed to be for my OWN Reflexology business, but I'm feeling so much better after having had a massage! And now, It's going to be on my regular health regime. Living with a painful back is no fun, and very distracting. Why wouldn't I share that???

What are you living with, that massage could help?

Reflexology Stops Time to Help You De-Stress!

I "had a pair of feet" yesterday. (This is how I will some times casually refer to having a reflexology session! It just slips out... sometimes it's easier for my mouth to say, than "I had a reflexology session." ) I had some time off, and didn't realize just how much I MISSED being in at Health Works Chiropractic and Wellness Centre!

I missed the ladies at reception, I missed seeing all the other practitioners that I work along side with!

The building has such a relaxing and friendly energy. I often lose track of time when I'm there. There's a mellow and healing energy from the time I walk in, that stays with me for the rest of the day after I leave. Welcoming clients into Health Works is a real pleasure.

Even after having some time off, it's nice to know that none of that healing energy is lost, or has to be rebuilt. I make up my massage table, get everything ready for my client, and spend a few moments meditating in my treatment room. By the time my client/guest arrives, I'm ready to deliver a relaxing and healing treatment!

Although Reflexology takes about an hour, while I'm in the treatment room, time seems to stay still and last forever at the same time! It is so great to help people relax and release their stress.

It's March break this week, and next week it's back to looking forward to "having a pair of feet" again!

My availability at Health Works chiropractic and Wellness Centre is Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:30am, and the last appointment intake is 3:30pm. If those days don't work for you, I am available for weekend home visits too!

Natural Relief for Tension Headaches

Tension headaches are very common, affecting as many as 40 percent of teenagers & adults. Often brought on by stress, headache pain may be caused by the tightening or contraction of the neck and scalp muscles. These are called cervicogenic headaches because they originate in the cervical spine—the seven vertebrae of the neck.

Sufferers can find relief for tension and other types of headaches through reflexology.

Foot reflexology can be particularly useful for relieving tension and stress that can cause headaches by releasing tightness in the cervical spine. It is also used to treat migraine, cluster, and sinus headaches. Reflexology can help a person anticipate the onset of a migraine by tapping into subtle symptoms that appear before the headache.

What Does Reflexology Research Show?

Research has shown the specific techniques of reflexology to be effective and beneficial in many ways, impacting a variety of physical and psychological concerns. This discussion notes results gathered from year-long research project of 170 reflexology studiesfrom 21 countries with fhindings published inEvidence-Based Reflexology Research for Health Professionals and Researchers(Kunz and Kunz, 2008, RRP Press, ebook, 224 pages).

The studies were selected among those available because the abstract or full study information included anindication of dosing—how much reflexology work lead to reported results. This included information about the frequency (how often) and/or duration (how long) of technique application. They, thus, met the major goals of this research—assessing reflexology research to determineparameters for success or failure with reflexology technique application in reference to dosinginformation.

Assessment of the 170 studies showed nine areas of effectiveness for reflexology application:relaxation, pain reduction, ameliorating of health concerns, improvement in blood flow, aid topost operative recovery, impacts physiological measures such as blood pressure, enhances medicalcare, eases pregnancy, delivery and post-partum effects, benefits mental health, eases pregnancy, delivery and post-partum effects and complements cancer care.

Announcement! In-Home Reflexology Visits Now Available!

I am available at Health Works Chiropractic and Wellness Centre on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays. On Mondays and Wednesdays, the last appointment I can recieve will have to be on the massage table by 4:30pm.  The Centre isn't open on Saturday or Sundays.

My office is located on the second floor, only accessable by stairs. For both of these reasons, I am now available to do In -Home Reflexology Visits in Midland Ontario and Area.

These treatments are good for people who want the benefits of Reflexology treatments but either are unable to walk up the stairs at Health Works, or are unable to take the time off work to come during the work day.

For your home visit treatment within Midland Ontario, I provide the towels and foot lotions. I will also bring a zero gravity chair to your home for you to sit in. If you have an upholstered recliner that you would prefer to use, this is also an option. You provide pillows and blankets for your session to help support you and keep you warm. As you relax, your body temperature will drop!

Soothing music is also a very nice way to help your body relax - choose your favourite meditative or classical music to play during your session. Be sure your selection is at least an hour long, as that's how long your reflexology session lasts.

For in-home visits, if you have animals, they must be kept in a separate room and away from the seating area where your treatment will take place, so as not to disturb your treatment. I am unable to make home visits to homes that are smoked in for health reasons.

For more information on how to have your Reflexology treatments happen in your home, details and rates, email me!

Reflexology: Suddenly I Can Sleep

An interesting article on a reporters experience with Reflexology, and how it's helped them get a great night's sleep.

For a Reflexology session in Midland Ontario, call 705-526-6900 to book an appointment.

Juice Plus Sweetener and Ingredient TRUTH Exposed!

I had been looking for a Shake-Alternative, that was truly as good as they said. The last shake mix I took was sold to me as being "all natural" - and then upon closer inspection, I found it wasn't. I felt duped. And dumb for not doing my OWN research.

I really love having a shake in the morning. Getting calories in the morning makes sure I DON'T gain unwanted waist weight.

I am also 'MOSTLY' vegetarian, and wanted to be sure I was getting the proper nutrition - even with being conscious of what I eat (local foods, natural foods) it's sometimes easy to miss what's needed in a busy life.

So, in my search, that has taken some time, I found a product that is affordable, tastes good, AND I did the research on each ingredient listed.

The ONLY ingredient in the list on the shake mix that I DIDN'T recognize as being natural was l-methionine. This is what I discovered about it:

an enzyme that can be found in eggs, sesame seeds, Brazil nuts, fish, meats and some other plant seeds; Also found in cereal grains.

 Seriously.

This product is sweetened naturally. This was a big deal to me, after discovering the OTHER shake mix I was taking was infact sweetened artificially with sucralose, a chemical sweetener. When I discovered this, after being told it was all natural, I knew I had to make a change for my health. For my peace of mind!

I am really pleased to find something that I can feel good about giving my kids and putting in my own body.

Reflexology is just one of the WELLNESS things I do for myself and my family, and want to share with others to help them learn too. I don't want to sound like a commercial - but after feeling duped with another product, I'm pretty excited about finding this. I feel like I can just get on with my healthy lifestyle now, and continue to move forward, instead of being stuck in this breakfast dilemma!

Have a wonderful day!!!

Things I've Learned This Week (So far!)

Things I've learned this week. (so far!)

  • I am totally capable of doing a full day of reflexology clients, and still end my day feeling completely zen.
  • I need more cushion on my bottom. One way or another.
  • I will require more pillowcases and towels, unless I can figure out a way to be at peace with doing laundry every single day.
  • My stomach gurgles as much as my relaxing clients stomachs gurgles. And sometimes more.
  • One CAN own too many bottles of foot lotion.
  • One can NEVER have too much Witch Hazel on hand.
  • The ladies at Reception are amazing and deserve prezzies.
  • The size of my little room makes no difference when my clients relax so much they fall asleep.
  • A good datebook is indispensable.
  • A good nailfile is indispensable. (my nails are growing at an alarming rate.)
  • Reflexology fits my life so very beautifully.
I am so appreciative.
I am so thankful.
I am so full of love.

This has been a beautiful and heart filling experience so far!

Lori.

Choosing Your Reflexology Connection

Your search for a Reflexologist may have brought you to more than one practitioner. How to choose one, especially if you've never experienced Reflexology, might seem puzzling. Let's simplify the process.

First of all, set aside the thinking that there is one best practitioner. Thinking there is a "best doctor", "Best acupuncturist", "best massage therapist", "best reflexologist" is not helpful. It's actually  misleading. Many professionals are well trained and experienced, and practice with integrity. The question, instead, should be:

Who best suits my unique needs?

The answer to this is often simply the practitioner you feel most drawn to from among those who meet your criteria.

When possible, it's an advantage to choose a practitioner close at hand. You won't want to go out of your way, on a regular basis.

It is also reasonable to have a brief phone conversation  with a practitioner before booking an appointment to ask about their training and to get a sense of their personality!

There are many fine Reflexologists who practice diligently, and have a deep mature relationship with Reflexology.

As you evaluate the information you've gathered, reflect on your own values. Some people gravitate to the practitioner that has the most diplomas, citations or press clippings. Others value clinical manner as highly as training, or the practitioner who is giving reflexology sessions several times a week and has a close and meaningful connection with the treatment and their clients.

Once you have gathered the information you need, go on the decision of your 'gut'. You may be lucky enough to find several competent practitioners.

Go with the one you like the best, the one with whom you feel most at ease.

J. R. Watkins Natural Products

The Naturopath Doctor and I had a talk about Watkins. She loves their products, too!

Use Associate Number 384890 When ordering online - or contact me personally!

The Foot Bone's Connected to the....

Picked up a few more foot lotions today. I have been looking for a scentless, natural lotion, and I seem to be having a very hard time getting BOTH of those things in one product. The time is getting close for my exam, and I need to have a scentless lotion for this... so, I picked these up.

I used the cracked heel cream on my own feet last night, and they are nice and soft today! The Moisture Therapy lotion isn't a foot lotion per se, but an all over body lotion. It's the only one that is truly scentless. The others have subtle hint of scent - but even that is too much for my exam.

Exam time is getting close! I have been studying nearly every night, as there is a lot to remember in the anatomy of the whole body, and I need to remember a LOT of symptoms and causes throughout the WHOLE body, and in every system. (Musculoskeletal, Nervous System, Autonomic System, Endocrine System, Circulatory System, Immune and Lymphatic System, Digestive System, Respiratory System, Urinary System, Reproductive System.)

YES, I have to know all about the WHOLE body, just to touch your feet! That is because Reflexology treats the whole body, through the feet!

Still on the hunt for a natural or even better, organic, scentless foot lotion...

Week One! Touching Feet?!

Week One of the $20 Reflexology sessions is complete! And it has been wonderful! So many surprises.

I really love pampering the feet. I think this is because I know just how wonderful this treatment is to recieve. I have had a few people I know say "How can you touch peoples feet all day?"

It's not just "touching feet." This is a lovely treatment, that helps my clients to relax and be well. It has helped them sleep through the night, helped their necks and shoulders release tension, helped relieve them of pain. It makes me really happy to see people allow their bodies and minds to relax.

Because, how often do we really allow ourselves to relax? To release the tension that the day creates, to put your worries away? I feel like I'm in a very special position to encourage my clients to feel better, settled, and let go of their stress.

There are still appointments available in the coming weeks. I'm available Monday, Wednesday and Fridays at Health Works Chiropractic and Wellness Centre, but by appointment only.

The office is open today (Friday) until 5 to book your appontments for next week, and then again on Monday at 8:45am. 705-526-6900

I have to say, I am so excited to meet all the new people who are coming in to benefit from the introductory special I'm running at Health Works Chiropractic & Wellness Centre.

I have posted the Reflexology special on this blog, on ShopMidland.com and on Facebook in an event listing. It's getting some great response!

If you've come here from any of those links, I'm so glad you're here! Have a look around, learn what Reflexology can do for you. I'll be happy to meet you at Health Works for your treatment.
